ABOUT THE ARTIST
"Creativity knows no age limit, everyone can be an artist!"
Growing up, I was always fascinated by the world of art. As a child, I spent hours sketching, painting, and dreaming up new creations. As I grew older, my passion for art only deepened, and I began to explore different mediums and styles. Today, I'm proud to call myself a multifaceted artist, with a heart for painting, muralism, portraiture, and fashion design. My art is a reflection of my journey, my passions, and my commitment to creativity and self-expression.
Each year, the Juneteenth Douglass Freedom Festival invites 901 artists to use their talent and creativity to honor Black history and celebrate freedom through art. For 2025, artists were asked to reflect on the theme: Women of Color, Women of Excellence, a tribute to the mothers, organizers, leaders, and everyday warriors who have shaped generations of progress.
We are proud to showcase the winning artwork from this year’s contest, a powerful piece that captures the spirit, strength, and story of the women who’ve led and inspired our continued fight for freedom, equity, and justice.
The winning artist was awarded a $500 cash prize, and their work will be featured throughout the festival on official merchandise, promotions, and more. All additional submissions from this year's contest are available to view below.
Explore the art and celebrate the bold vision of our city's own artists.
